e-Newsletter January 2009

Happy New Year ...

At a time when the papers and magazines are full of reviews of 2008 and telescopes peering into 2009 this month’s Newsletter concentrates on the single topic of Inspiration.  Whatever the future challenges and opportunities of the New Year will be, we will all be better prepared if we know where we want to go, what inspires, lifts and pushes us forward.

Inspiring your Business

In 2008 Barack Obama inspired Americans to back his drive for change, Olympic athletes inspired many to lift their horizons and Woolworths failed to inspire anybody sufficiently to cause them to shop there.  Knowing what you want from 2009, for your business and personally; what inspires you and fills your dreams; what inspires the people you work with; what you will commit to striving for and achieving, may give you that important edge at times of economic difficulty.  Without it others will certainly have the advantage of opportunity.

“5% inspiration 95% perspiration,” is the oft heard saying.  Dreams alone achieve nothing and it is only the detailed, deliberately focused implementation of your effort which will take you to your goal.  Plans which meet the ambition and complexity of your business, allowing clarity and giving purpose to people at every level need to be built or refreshed.

As you look forward to 2009 why not draw on a real example from 2008, the success of Emma Pooley in Bejing and follow this link.

Finally, as you consider what it is which inspires you, ask yourself also do you believe that you can achieve that dream.  If you and your business do not believe in yourselves then why should a customer.  Belief is not optimistic arrogance but the confidence that you can counter your challenges and always take another step forward.

Decisive Operations can help you to give real substance to what inspires you or your business.  Working with senior executives to identify your dream, through your business to ensure that it delivers in a unified action, to helping develop the leaders who will drive it forward, we can help you in 2009.

h of .  In a sequence of events labelled a ‘national disaster’, insufficient communication and poor training were highlighted as key to the failure.

The airport staff had clearly failed to recognize adequate training requirements with near catastrophic consequences.  The key lessons for all organisations to draw from this are that training on its own is not necessarily sufficient.  The essential requirement is for properly focussed training needs assessment which delivers valuable quality measurable training.

If you require any support on identifying your training needs please contact us to discuss how we can help.
